West Point 24 hour 'Push for Baghdad'
Dawn and I went to West Point game during the April 3rd & 4th weekend of 2004. We also brought our nephew Steven. Despite some logistics problems we had a good time. As far as I could tell the only real problem was that they got more players than expected, which can cause quite a number of headaches at a paintball event. The rain also slowed things down a bit on Sunday and at times it was certainly too cold for my tastes, although once you got playing it was very nice paintball weather at least on Saturday. In fact the last time I was out on the field playing I was wearing too much and sweated enough that my goggles fogged to the point where I had to leave the field. I had become separated from Dawn and Steven who had continued playing and hooked up with the Julius crew and got in some tank time. I had gone back reloaded our pods, refilled the tanks and messed around with the x-cannon (I don't think the 1' pressure chamber is going to work at low pressures). I was surprised that Dawn and Steven hadn't come back yet so I drove up to an insertion point. I had heard that Julius had gotten stuck in the mud so after a while I told one of the cadets that I was willing to try to pull them out with Dawns S-10 Blazer if he was willing to lead to where they were stuck. I showed up, making one of my materialization appearances apparently (it's a strange habit of mine) almost immediately after Dawn told Mimi that her Blazer has 4 wheel drive and maybe it could pull them out. It seems that they were so engrossed with Julius that they didn't see the headlights and hazard lights blink of the S-10 as I drove up in the dark until I was standing next to them. After the previous weekend at the Science Fiction convention I seem to have developed a habit of appearing in unlikely places when Dawn needs me. The brown game logo above was from the shirt pictured several rows below near the center. I think the shirts were made up by Team HVXG at www.hvxg.com. John Harris (pictured two rows above on the right holding the orange ball of boundary tape the cadets awarded him) of www.tacticalmarkers.com donated several guns that were given away at the end of the event. Troy Buddenhagen from the Gryphonians was the last person to receive on.
We also made a quick stop at the West Point Museum. If your in the area it's well worth the stop. These pictures are more of a tease than a real representation of the museums displays.
