5/22/02 Nerf
Rockets:
5/21/02 BIG GAME UPDATE: early evening. I'm pretty much done with the sorting and re-labeling of all the pictures. I'm now going through them and pulling out the useable ones. I've got two pages of pictures so far with 40 pictures per page.
5/20/02 BIG GAME UPDATE: late evening. Still sorting! I have about 75 or so pictures from Sunday still to organize. I finished Friday and Saturday though and those are posted in the Photo Archive section or just click on this button. I don't think that I'll be able to finish this tonight. I'm still feeling pretty beat and it's now after 10:00 p.m. and I have to go into work early tomorrow. I'm hoping to at least finish re-naming all those pictures before I turn in for the night. BIG GAME UPDATE: early evening. I'm still organizing all the pictures I took (over 300! I love my new digital camera!). There's a few pictures on the Index page if you missed them and I've put in some updated Tiger crew pictures from the Big Game in the Tigers section of Tank Crews. I've also added a preliminary section to tank crews for the Scorpions and will have more info on their crew after I talk to Alan.
5/18/02 BIG GAME TOMORROW! Still haven't finished the main gun but I did test fire it a little while ago. Shot a Nerf Pocket Rocket across the street at 60 psi. I have no idea how fast it was going it hit a short fence about 50 feet out. Here are some pictures. I've changed the valve to a PVC ball valve for now. I'll have more up tomorrow night. I've taken over 50 pictures so far for Big Game related stuff. I'm still working on them and they should be up tomorrow along with a bunch of other stuff that's been delayed because of the Big Game.
5/12/02 Bad Monkeys do it again! Scott Mears Captain of the Bad Monkeys sent in some pictures of their latest tank the 'Silver Back' along with their team logo and a link to their new web site. There's also another picture of the Silver Back in the Bad Monkeys section of the Fl-GA sub gallery, that one shows it under construction.
The Pink Panzer! I got an e-mail a few days ago from Kyle "Kyote" DeVries, his tank 'The Pink Panzer is nearing completion and he's sending in some pictures soon. This is a lawn mower based tank. I'm hoping to add Kyle's tank to the tank names section later tonight.
ONE WEEK LEFT! I haven't had the time lately to work on this site because most of my free time lately has been spent on Big Game related stuff. I've been out to George's a lot and I also started working on collecting parts for the Tigers 'Main Gun'. It's now 6:30 a.m. and I've been up for about an hour or so and figured that this is a perfect time to get some of the news up before I go out and see if I can get the tranny on my old Blazer back into some sort of working order. I don't have any new pictures of the Tiger since I forgot to bring my camera yesterday but it's coming along very nicely. I'm over 3/4 finished on the new rear track job. George got a bit carried away and is in the process of changing all the windows on the body of the Tiger over to his new 'clip on' system. Butch and I tested the new power brakes yesterday. We had the Tiger out in the street in front of George's and I pounded on the gas, got it up to at least thirty and slammed on the brakes. They worked very well! In fact I forgot that George's 1/4 inch drive socket tray was in the tank at the time. The tray was thrown forward scattering sockets all over the forward area inside the tank where many of them escaped out the missing firewall to roll out into the street. We did manage to recover all of them and now that the tranny leak is fixed we're hoping to have a new fire wall back in place by next Saturday. Butch is also almost finished re-wiring some of the wiring harness for the new stereo components. He picked up a second amp along with an equalizer. It's going to be a busy week! I'm going to post the pictures I took of my old Blazer yesterday and the pile of PVC pieces for the Tiger's cannon. for now hopefully I'll have some new pictures of the Tiger posted tonight.
5/5/02 Running over to George's in a little while to do a bit of work on the Tiger, TWO WEEKS LEFT! George got a call from Alan, captain of the Scorpions Tank Crew, the LI Love Bug has been retired and they have a new foe for us this year. Details are sketchy at this time. I'm pretty sure that it's built on Alan's old Suzuki Samurai. It's more of an APC than a tank from what Alan told George. We'll see what Stripe thinks heh heh heh (I'll explain that later).
TANK
Anthony of Team Delta Force asked me to let everyone know that his tank is for sale. He can be reached at PAINTBALLER2005@aol.com There's a couple of pictures of the TDF-1 Destroyer over in the Florida-Georgia section of the Gallery. There's also a good shot of it over at Army of Darkness's site from the recent Tank Girls event at Wayne's World here http://www.aodpb.com/images/tankergirl/tank2.JPG the turret is off in this picture.
Bill Bailey sent in a picture of his friend Rick Tucks Armored Vehicle, posted in the Germanic Invaders section.

It's been a relatively quiet few days. We were at the field yesterday handing out fliers and Kenny let us use the field truck to tow the tank. 3/30/02 Added some more of Carters work and some more CAD pics from Peter. Also have a pic of the HickWars go-kart tank in the main gallery. This one looks like it's wearing a ghillie suit! And to think Bill Tison got grief for HellFire being invisible, just think about how hard it'd be to see this one hiding in some brush. 3/29/02 How's this for a cannon valve? Restructured the Tank Gallery. I was starting to feel that it was simply too large for a single page. In addition to the regular gallery I split off 4 sub galleries. The pictures submitted for the tank designs section by Jammyboy are simply incredible, I now have software and s/w skill envy hahahaha. Mailed off secret box to Bill Tison. After removing the contents he's thinking of mounting the box on top of HellFire to give Team War Wagon something to shoot at. I'm starting to feel a bit of tension between these two, check out recent posts over at Warpigs Rec Talk and Tank Talk for more details. All in good fun though. I'd also like to add some more tank crews to the Tank Crews section. You can check it out through the link on the navigation bar and look at what I set up for our Tiger. If anyone wants to submit something similar for their own tank crew I'd love to post it. I might just go through that horrible web mail (the biggest pain about that is I can't track what I've sent out) and ask some of the other tankers to send some stuff in.
3/28/02 Finally got around to adding Todd of the Wisconsin Gryphonians tank (M3L Stuart Little) to the tank names list. I have all the tank names in an Excel spread sheet for sorting and I have to cut and paste it into FrontPage whenever a tank needs to be added. I was going over the stats for Armored Fist here and discovered that some people were coming here from the Tippmann forum. While I was there I came across some interesting links (2 of which are now in the tank links section). So I went and updated the links section to add a link to the Tippmann site. Here are the two tank related links. the first goes over to some truly impressive CAD work of a paintball tank in it's design stage, from the look of this I'd love to see this tank built. The second link goes off to an actual go-kart tank which are surprisingly rare. http://www.geocities.com/jammyboy01/index.html http://www.geocities.com/hickwars/ So now I've worked on my two least favorite section of Armored fist. The tank names section isn't really that bad and I really have no idea why I just don't like working on the links pages. For some reason I'd much rather be working on the other sections. Other good news, I found a local distributor of Rainbird lawn system supplies and I got my income tax check. I'm hoping to stop by that place tomorrow but it looks like I may be jumping down to North Carolina for my niece's 4th birthday so no work on the cannon this weekend hahaha.
3/24/02 Well we missed the car show. I'm writing up that story and it'll be in the tank stories section. The pictures from the day are in the photo archive I've added two stories from other tankers in the Tank Stories section. Jim Bergles and Dave from the Bad Monkey's have stories up so far. This along with some other stuff contributed to the site by other people is taking Armored Fist in a direction I hadn't anticipated when I first started the site. I originally just needed more online space for our Tiger and it seemed worth it to me to actually go out and buy the URL and set up the hosting. In a relatively short time it's becoming much more than that, I for one am very happy with the way things are heading and hope that the site continues to grow to meet the needs of the paintball armored vehicle community. I posted an online version of the flyer we were handing out today if you click on the 2002 PBLI Big Game link above it'll take you to it. The one posted here is a little different than the one we were handing out but will most likely be what we use for our next batch. I'm working on a Crew Section for the Tiger and I'm willing to add more sections for other tank crews out there if they want to submit their info. 3/23/02 I should have put this up days ago. We're taking the Tiger to it's first Car Show! We'll be going to the 'Long Island Cars" Car Show and Swap Meet tomorrow (Sunday 3/24/02). It'll be at the Flower Field Fairground: Route 25A St. James Take the L.I.E to exit 60N to Hawkins Ave. North. It's not a clover leaf type exit, after getting off the L.I.E. it should be the first or second light and make a left onto Hawkins. Hawkins will turn into Stonybrook Rd. (it should change right after crossing middle country road) continue for 4 miles at end of Stonybrook Rd. make a left turn to go west on Route 25A. The Fair Grounds are a 1/2 a mile on the left. 3/21/02 Jim B. of the Bergles Barrel System sent in his tips on tank building. Head over to the Tank Tips section and click on the second picture of the Freak to check them out! I was outside earlier (in the dark like an idiot) with my tape measure because of a telephone conversation I had with George. There is a slight (very slight) chance that we may actually build our second tank within the next two months. This time though it's going to be designed from the start with a specific tank in mind. Our Tiger was kind of accidental. I really hate to think about just how close it came to being a 'Fruit truck tank', no turret (or roof!) and no tracks. Luckily George saw enough of a resemblance to one of his toy micro machine tanks that we were able to turn our fruit truck/wooden humvee into a decent Tiger. After taking some actual measurements of our 'donor' vehicle before any work is done (a first for us!) I sketched out the following This is the first actual concept drawing of what we're planning for our second machine. It may not be exactly drawn to scale but it's pretty close. To be honest we really don't think we'll have it any sooner than some time in 2003 but like I said there is a very small chance that it'll be finished within two months. We're just starting some preliminary work that doesn't cost us anything, just in case hahaha. My apologies to Alan for that jab. We do wish him and his crew the best of luck. George was telling me that he really wants to know how we pulled off the rotating turret. If any body is interested head over to the Photo Archive section. I took a bunch of pictures of the new turret while it was being built and those are in the April and May 2002 sections. A word of caution to anyone who want to try to copy my design, it eats up a lot of plywood! I'm sure that it can be done using less but it worked out well for us. I've even thought up a way to convert it over to being a powered turret. That's one project that'll be on hold for a bit though, have to see what happens with the second tank and then the trailer problems before we even think about that! 3/18/02 Added a March 2002 section to the Photo Archive for the pictures taken of the Tiger as we pulled it out for the opening of Tank Season here at Armored Fist on Long Island. Posted the newer version of the Bergles Barrel System that should be a lot easier on those people with dial-up connections. Found the valve I want for my cannon system online. Sold by a place out in California for $307!! I've had no luck finding the larger rain bird valves at Home Depot or Lowes, but I've only been to one of each. The Lowes has only been open for a month or so and has no in-ground lawn sprinkler equipment at all. Although the pile of stuff here in my work room is growing anyway Some better pics of my old Blazer George and I were talking a bit yesterday about it. We may even start doing something with it this year, imagine that hahahahaha. In case anyone missed it, there's a new tank site up at WWW.KAPUT.RU It's a Russian site so I can't read hardly any of it myself (just the stuff that show up in English that is lol) but if you're using IE when your put cursor on a button it shows up in English in the lower left hand border of IE.
3/15/02 'AND SO IT BEGINS' to quote a favorite show I finally got a copy of the April issue of 'Paintball Magazine'! Sure enough there's our beast on pages 74 and 75 to kick off the 'Boneheads Big'n' article. I had received an e-mail from someone that I can't find so I can't give proper credit to them for sending us the heads up on this article. Thanks! My e-mail setup is still giving me a giant headache, I can send mail through web mail but then I have no record of what I've sent! If I haven't gotten back to someone in the past couple of months, send me another e-mail! I was checking the local book store almost daily for the past couple of weeks looking for it only to keep finding the last copy of the March issue. I was in the store the other day when two of the girls working there were re-stocking the magazines. I quickly checked the sports section. No new 'Paintball Magazine' still that lonely March issue. I went back to the cart and tried not to annoy the girls too much by jumping in and scanning the cart while they were taking magazines off of it. The side they were working on didn't have it so I pretended to look through the computer section of magazines since it was the nearest to the cart. As soon as they finished that side and pulled the cart away from the wall to get the rest of the magazines I snuck in and started scanning. There it was! I quickly pulled out a copy and to my horror it was the May issue! Somehow I had managed to miss April. I quickly left the store and proceeded to drive from book store to book store hoping to find a copy. Even though I found a single April issue at the next 'Barnes and Noble' the next two 'Borders' and next two 'Barnes and Noble' didn't have any. So now I've only got a single copy and I have to e-mail a note to 'Paintball Magazine' they listed me as the driver! ack! George does almost all the driving of the beast, I only go back and forth on the driveway and up on the trailer hahaha. Looks like we'll be taking the tank out to it's first car show next Sunday on the 24th. So while a good many southern tankers are finishing up the Tet Offensive at Old river we'll be lounging around with the strangest 1983 S-10 pickup to appear at a L.I. car show. Should be a blast! As far as the rest of the stuff from the tank crew meeting. We're not going to be making any real decisions on events for the year until we see what kind of financial shape we're in after the Big Game. As Bill Tison said over on the Pig 'Tank Wars, Florida style!' Last time I checked they're up to 7 tanks for this event. Sometimes I really think that we just live in the wrong part of the country. Jim Bergles sent over a newer version of his cannon system instructions that I'm hoping to have up tomorrow. It's pretty much the same as the current set, only in a slightly different format that'll help all those out there with dial-up connections. I'm going to be talking to George this weekend about D-Day at Skirmish. The actual field isn't really friendly to large tanks that lack 4 wheel drive. Although Paul the field manager was really impressed with our monster about a year and a half ago. In my opinion this just gives us another reason to be thinking 'Second Tank' Speaking of the possibility of a second tank, One more crazy thought I haven't shared with the rest of my tank crew. With all the paintball cannon stuff that's going to be going on up here, I think it might just be time that an Armored Fist artillery piece be created. As soon as I get at least a working prototype of my cannon finished, I'm planning on building at least two of the 'Bergles Barrel System' cannons (is cannon also plural?). To add to that an old friend of myself and George, George U. from our stage crew days has expressed interest in working on a cannon for us and George has an interesting concept for cannon also. I don't know if George will try to get George U. to build his idea or if he's going to try it on his own. Surprisingly I'm having trouble visualizing George's idea in a way that I can see working and George is having the same trouble with my idea. Should be interesting, especially if we manage to get both of them working. Actually I can see George's idea working I just don't think it can be made to work properly and still be small enough to be used the way George wants. As for my cannon George thinks it's too complicated, well to be honest it really is and there are some details that I haven't figured out how to do mechanically (will work fine manually though hahaha). 3/7/02 Posted the preliminary round for Jim Bergles new cannon design, start in the Tank Tips section and follow the link by clicking the Freak! Moved Bill Tisons section in the tank rules to it's own page. Finally got the few pictures I took while wandering around Wayne's World the weekend after Thanksgiving. It was kind of quiet but it was right after the holiday. There's a few new pics of the Marines APC on the field in the gallery. I wish I had taken one of their village. This place has some impressive field structures. Anyone know if the cars in the fourth picture were used as paintball tanks in any of Wayne's games? And last for today. I found a site dedicated to R/C paintball tank combat. Click below! 3/3/02 Jim B. has been sending me some extremely interesting stuff the past week. Some of it is kind of hush - hush but it's all really good. hopefully I'll be able to post it soon. 2/21/02 Second round of Shirts were picked up yesterday. Only three this round and they're all spoken for hahaha. I should be mailing out two tomorrow if all goes well. 2/16/02 The first of this years tank games is starting today! Blackcat Productions has started their updates for 'Tank Wars: Battle for London' at Mt. Doom in Hanceville AL. Team Hun arrived there yesterday afternoon with their SdKfz251 Half Track. Blackcat Productions will be posting updates live from the field, check them out below. 2/15/02 I can't believe that I forgot to list Bunker Extreme's D-Day 2002! O.k. it's not actually a tank themed game so to speak but they are trying to have the most tanks ever at a scenario game (they had 12 tanks, yes 12! at the 2001 D-Day). I don't think that we'd ever be able to make one of their games as a tank crew mostly because we have 5 gunners and their limit is 2 gunners. I have no problem giving up my own gun and do nothing other than operate the cannon but that still leaves us 2 gunners over the limit and that's provided that they don't consider the cannon operator a gunner. Any way if you're interested and can meet their requirements check out the link below. I've talked to people who've been to other events there and they all had a good time and last years D-Day event sounded like a riot.
2/11/02 I received a couple of e-mails from Josh Larson who found some more paintball tank pictures on the web. Including the new home of Alternative Paintball! Their old web site had disappeared a while back and I'm very glad to see them back since they have some rather rare pictures of our Tiger from it's premier event at the Paint Ball Long Island 1999 Big Game. That was the year that we only made the first half of the game because we fried our clutch. I'm pretty sure that they used to have a pic of JIMMAY! kneeling on the hood with his rear in the air while he did some emergency work on the tank. Just in case you were wondering, yes he got shoot in the butt. If you look closely on the hood in their picture of the Tiger you can see a small stuffed Barney the Dinosaur that we had stapled to the hood, now that thing got shoot up! Anyway the link is http://www.computersims.com/altpaintball/pav.htm Josh also sent in this picture
This one's over at Petty Paintball over near Austin Texas, I'm not sure if they use it as a tank or some sort of field support. I think it used to be a VW bug. Josh is also the guy who found the Army of Darkness tank gallery with pictures of the monster 200+ round paintball howitzer that Caveman of Team Got Balls sent in. Thanks again Josh! Also we still haven't managed to have our tank crew meeting yet so I have no idea exactly what we're doing as far as events go this year. Logistically speaking we're about a year away from being able to do a lot more as far as going to more events goes. Sadly for us this is looking to be a great year for tanks (hopefully for us next year will be just as good). There's at least four different tank themed games this year. To actually get '2002 the year of the tank' started Spiro of BlackCat Productions is hosting 'Tank Wars Battle of London' at Mount Doom in Alabama this coming weekend (that's 2-16-2002). He's also helping 'light' tankers out with the insurance and giving tank crews break on several things, Spiro's post on WarPigs Tank Talk is here, http://www.warpig.com/forums/tank/messages/1011910695852.shtml Pacman of MXS there is prize money available for best tank and also for best tank crew at the MXS Shadowbreed event at Challenge Park Extreme in June. Pacman is also covering the Insurance for all golf cart/ATV and small off road frame tanks along with the first four registered 'heavy' tanks at that event check out some details here, http://www.warpig.com/forums/tank/messages/1011824479836.shtml Short of one of our crew hitting Lotto or something similar I can't see us making this one. I'm thinking about heading out there myself just for the weekend with my camera but that'll depend on the finances. My support for best tank is going out to NotBob! of the Mayberry Marauders, he's got something in the works for this event. Sometime in April I believe is the 'Tank Girls' Game at Wayne's World. I don't really know much about this event other than with a little luck it should be the debut of Demolition Goblins 1/2 scale HumVee. That should be interesting on it's own (as if he wasn't the bane of tanks before, now he doesn't have to carry all his anti-tank gear). The last weekend of August will see a second tank event at Challenge Park Extreme. This is the William Shatner Charity event. Last time I checked I didn't see mentioned on their web site but I think that there will also be tank prizes for this event also but that could have been a mix up with Pacmans event there. And Finally, to top off the year. If everything goes well a lot of people are hoping for a return to Blanding the weekend of November 9th! This is probably not going to be a 'tank theme' game but it's hopefully going to be one of our big highlights this year. I really hope this event goes through! 2/7/02 I finally managed to get everything straightened out and the only thing I seem to have lost is the count on my hit counter. I did have to do a complete re-load of Armored Fist and I'll be checking everything over the next couple of days to make sure it all went across. My personal e-mail is still a bit screwy and probably will stay that way for the forseeable future. I had some problems getting used to that and may have lost track of some mail (which is the real cause of all the trouble here at Armored Fist). I'm not about to give up the cable modem access just to make sending e-mail easier, this thing is great! I have no trouble receiving e-mail it's just the send part that gives me grief. So if anyone out there is waiting on anything please send a new e-mail to let me know and I'll do my best to get it done. Thanks 1/26/02 Team Delta Force who bought the Avocado of Death from The Knight's who say Nee! are looking for a new name for it. Anthony captain of Team Delta Force is toying with 'Doomsday' or 'HellDorado'. Does anyone else have any ideas? I'm tossing in 'TDF-01 Dragon' but then I always liked tossing numbers in these kind of names. There's always the option of keeping Avocado of Death. 1/20/02 I got some shirts made up. So far only had four done and only in Medium and it's a small medium. Seems o.k. to me but it's not a normal medium. 1/13/01 I don't have any news on our Tiger seeing how it's still wrapped up for the winter and the only up and coming project for us is to build a working cannon starting in February. Some interesting developments lately though have been, BlackCat Productions upcoming Tank Wars near Birmingham Alabama during the weekend of February 16 &17 (I know several tankers aren't happy about missing this one, including us...maybe next time). As stated above WarPig now has a tank forum. Bob Whetsel lost the base vehicle of the tank he was building to a barn fire, he's going to forge ahead anyway and still build a King Tiger. The Knight's who say Nee! have sold their Avocado of Death. And the most recent bit of tank news that I've heard; Pacman of MXS has been asking some very interesting questions for us tankers on the WarPig tank forum that have many of us eagerly anticipating the next set of questions and answers. Oh yeah I almost forgot I read somewhere on WarPig that team S.O.T.A. is building a smaller version of the Gunship. 12/12/01 I got an e-mail from David of the Bad Monkeys telling me that they've bought the Doom Troopers Troll. Looks like the Bad Monkeys now have more tanks than anyone else out there. 10/6/01 The Tank Gallery is now up to 34 different tanks ranging from the VW Bus based War Wagon to a custom frame RC tank. There are also two different Howitzers, the second one is pictured with the Half Track in the Germanic Invaders section. As the weekend of October 6th the tank is now in George's backyard. It should be getting it's final cleaning and get covered by the giant tarp tomorrow. Now that the tank is about to be completely stored we're going to focus on finishing the LAN party room in Georges basement and then our winter project is going to be, GET THE CANNON WORKING! I have some very interesting ideas on how to do that so that it matches the Tiger character. It should be an interesting project.
10/2/01 Well I finally took down the under construction sentence. With this nights update I'm pretty sure that I have all the basic parts that I wanted here at Armored Fist. There are some things that I want to look into adding but those are most likely to be additions to already existing parts of this web site. By adding our Tiger along with Steve and Michaels Half Track I now have 35 examples of paintball armor in the gallery (that includes the DT howitzer and the RC tank). I have one more picture of an unknown tank that has to be scanned in. One of my co-workers was driving on route 19 north of the Tampa Bay area of Florida when she spotted it and took a picture for me. Considering the area I'm sure that it's been to Wayne's World but I've never seen it before in any magazine articles. Blue of EMR is also mailing some pictures of tanks that have been to EMR that I'm planning on scanning and adding to the gallery. As for our Tiger George and I are planning on putting it into storage tomorrow so I may take some pictures of that. We're also looking to sell our current trailer and use the money towards getting a new trailer that's lower to the ground. The bed on the one we have is above the wheels. When the tank is tied down to it, the tank/trailer combination has a very high center of gravity that wobbles erratically when we go over 45 mph. With all of the e-mails I sent out for tank pictures, I found out that the Guys of Action Creek will be bringing their tanks to Ambush Paintball of Lancaster PA (717) 871-8632 for a Scenario game next week (9-29-01).. At this time there is no news other than the new web site. The tank is sitting in George's driveway and we will be putting it into storage in his backyard soon. We are looking to sell our trailer and get one that has a bed a little lower to the ground. The trip to EMR was interesting to say the least. The current trailer/tank combo doesn't like to go over 45 mph. With that limitation going to an event such as the MXS Mout Blanding event is out of the question. |
