Mayberry Marauders Patrol Vehicle
By: Not Bob! of the Mayberry Marauders While it's truly not a tank, and more of a recon vehicle, it did the job for a few events. I designed and built it. It was pretty cool. I just started with an idea in my head and put things together. I took a pic of the patrol car from the Andy Griffith show and tried to make it like that. I figured I had the atv to do it on, and since we are named after that show and most of the people on the team have Mayberry names it would be cool to give it a shot. In hindsight, I feel I could have done it with 1/4" subfloor and the cost would have been a bit less and it would be alot lighter. Basically I just took 4 sheets of 3/4" particle board, then pieced it together. I bolt it onto the atv with u-bolts via a 4x4 post running across the front and back racks. Then I connected a 2x4 down the sides to each 4x4. Then, I put up 1 full sheet on 1 side and screwed it on, then the other. It looked funny at first. But as I kept going, I drew the angles and cut off the slants for the front and back, then the spots for the wheels, then the windows and it didn't look too bad. I then put a 2x4 across the front and back in 2 places and screwed on the sheets for that. I cut out the hood and rear deck and placed them on top of a 2x4 frame and screwed them in, that way when I was ready to take the whole thing off, I just unscrew 4 screws, remove the hood and trunk lid, and undo the u-bolts. I figure it weighs around 200 lbs. I can pick the whole thing up in 1 piece then with my come-a-long and it only takes about 10 minutes to get it ready. I have thought of the blues mobile, but I remember talking to someone(can't remember who), but they said they are making one, soo in a few months you might see one. As far as the GL, that would be pretty cool. I think I have about $300 in the current one, only around $200 of that was actual hardware. The signs and light were the most expensive piece of it, and totaled around $100. If they ever have a Dukes of Hazard scenario I will build one! If anyone ever wants design help or even help building something, I would be more than willing, depending on location. I am in Lima, OH, which is between Toledo and Dayton, so I am about 3-5 hrs from alot of places, such as Chicago, Michigan's UP, Tennessee, PA, WV, etc... Thanks Not Bob
